About G-FCTK DH82C
The de Havilland Tiger Moth, first introduced in1931, was purpose built as a primary training aircraft for the Royal Airforce. As one of the key aircraft of the British and Commonwealth Air Training Plan, it played a pivotal role in preparing aircrew during the Second World War.
The Canadian – built DH82C variant featured several significant modifications over its British DH82A counterpart. These included a jettisonable cockpit canopy, integrated cockpit heating, wheel brakes, a tailwheel in place of the skid and a more powerful engine. The prototype DH82C took to the skies for the first time in March 1940 from Downsview, near Toronto.
G- FCTK was built in 1941and over the years has been sympathetically restored and maintained to an exceptionally high standard. Whilst it is not known how many of the Canadian variants are still flying, there are just around 40 in Canada.
